PRE-OP INSTRUCTIONS

What must I do for my pet before surgery?

UCAN Pre-op Instructions - Before Surgery
  • Ohio law requires that all pets be vaccinated for rabies.  Please bring proof of vaccination with you the day of surgery.  If you do not have proof, your pet will be vaccinated for an additional charge of $10.00.
  • Do not give your pet ANYTHING to eat after 9 pm the night prior to surgery.  This includes bones, rawhides, treats, etc.   Water is okay.
  • If your dog is a puppy, make sure that it has a late meal around 9 pm.
  • If  within the last 30 days your pet has had any symptoms of illness, including vomiting, diarrhea or skin issues,  or has been on any medications you must let the staff know when you make the appointment or at check-in.    Any pet that has had a seizure of any kind or duration will not be approved for surgery under any circumstances.  For the safety of your pet, approval for surgery is at the sole discretion of the veterinarian.
  • On the day of surgery, arrive at the clinic at 8:00 am. Please do not come earlier as the staff will still be releasing animals from the prior day.
  • You will need to complete a short admission form for each pet having surgery. Please leave dogs in the car until your paperwork is complete.
Click to view a copy of the Admission Form  This is for informational purposes only.  You
will still have to fill out the 3-part form at the clinic.
