An epidemic is sweeping our nation, taking the lives of more than 33,000 dogs and cats, puppies and kittens, right here in Greater Cincinnati each year. It is the leading cause of death among companion animals, striking more pets than cancer, rabies, feline leukemia and heartworm combined. But this epidemic is not an illness or disease. Its name is euthanasia, and the only way to stop it is to meet it at its source, through spaying and neutering our companion animals before they can contribute to the problem.

News

12/7/2007 - As of December 7th, the UCAN Spay/Neuter Clinic had completed 4041 surgeries.

10/29/2007 - The UCAN Spay/Neuter Clinic received a wonderful surprise earlier this month – a $20,000 donation from the Joanie, Jeanne and Howard Bernard Foundation, administered by Fifth-Third Bank.

The funds will be used to help defray the costs of spaying and neutering feral cats throughout the coming year. To commemorate this generous gift, the clinic’s main lobby will be dedicated in honor of the Bernard Foundation.

More good news came in October, when UCAN was awarded $10,000 from the Two Mauds Foundation to further subsidize the spay/neuter of animals in Brown and Adams Counties.

“We are deeply grateful for the caring generosity that so many have demonstrated toward UCAN in this past year,” Sanger said.

“And we especially want to thank Joanie Bernard for this most recent gift. Through her generosity, UCAN will be able to dedicate additional resources to helping manage the feral cat problem in our community.”
